What Peggy's students, past and present, say about their time at the Arctic Siren Teaching Studio:
Peggy brings to her students not only a joyful approach to singing, but she also generously shares her many years' experience as a musician and performer. Her gentle coaching and enthusiasm makes each lesson a fun journey toward voice development. She custom tailors her approach to what each student wants or needs, and her music industry resources to support both new and established singers are many and varied. Whether you're a budding singer trying to find your voice or a vocal powerhouse, you'll find an expert and supportive mentor and coach in Peggy.

From trombone blowing to guitar strumming to CD recording, Peggy seems to do it all and with such a gift of relating to children. Peggy's idea to record my son after he accomplished a milestone in his violin instruction a few years back, proved to be THE BEST gift to give friends and family. My son felt like he had "made it to the big time" and was impressed with being “in a recording studio.” Thank you Ms. Peggy for being so patient and simply a gift of a music teacher. We sure are lucky to have had your musical support!

I took voice lessons with Peggy Monaghan for approximately a year, once a week in her studio. I was a very timid, but Peggy helped me "find my voice!” She provided education in correct breathing, vocal exercises, and a wide range of types of music tailored to my voice and technical performance skills, challenging me and helping me gain confidence. She is very intuitive, encouraging, and professional - a superb teacher for anyone of any age or ability level. She knows her stuff and it is obvious when you realize she is not just a vocal teacher but involved in music at all levels and venues throughout the community. From recording CDs of other performers to leading the Derry Aires, a women's performance group specializing in Irish tunes, she lives and breathes music.

Peggy has a way of guiding a student to reach heights they never realized they were capable of. She is encouraging and supportive in all her students endeavors. I enjoy working with her.

I have learned so much from Peggy over the years I've studied with her! Not only has she taught me about the technical aspects of being an independent musician, I've also learned a lot about who I am and, with Peggy's guidance, developed myself as a person as well as a musician. Whether working with other creatives or in other areas of life, learning to manage myself better has helped me reach far more success than I would have otherwise.

I took music lessons with Peggy Monaghan for 12 years. I called her to begin lessons, full of trepidation but wanting to finally be able to at least sing “happy birthday” at birthday parties. I asked if she taught “middle aged women who can’t sing.” Her answer was that of course she did! I learned about pitch, key, head voice and other important aspects of singing. By introducing me to many genres of music that I had never paid attention to before and increasing my knowledge of musical genres and music theory I came to increase my love of music. We expanded to learning to play guitar and piano. With the guitar I was able to participate in a local weekly jam session and met some wonderful new people. The lessons were fun as well as educational. Peggy has a wonderful sense of humor. She also understands the negative experiences many adults suffered while learning music as a child and helps to overcome the effects of those negative experiences. The years of lessons have given me confidence to sing in public, and even lead services at synagogue that I never thought I would be able to do. Also, now I can sing “happy birthday” at birthday parties!

About 7 years ago I joined a few friends that had been taking voice lessons with Peggy for several years. The sessions are a meaningful way for me to put aside my crazy life and step into the studio for laughter, learning and camaraderie. I call it music therapy because it raises my spirits and brings me joy! Peggy skillfully guides us with a variety of music and experiences that change every semester. It's weekly musical fun in a casual setting that can be transformed into an intimate night club for our performance, complete with lights, microphones, cocktail tables and friends! Singing at the Turnagain Social Club for the last couple years has been a well received community involvement. Peggy gift is sharing her musical passion, knowledge and talent.

She is intuitively creative in bringing out the best in anyone’s singing and performing abilities. Her physiological knowledge of the body, breath, and vocal cord function has assisted me in overcoming both physical and psychological obstacles to finding my true voice. And finally, for all those who think they can’t sing (but secretly would like to!), Peggy CAN and will draw out the unique and signature sound of your voice, a voice that only you will ever have.

Peggy is one of those rare artists who has the confidence and ability to enhance other people’s skills. She carefully crafts individual and respectful education for each student she agrees to teach. It doesn’t matter what skills you have or do not have, Peggy can find ways to help you improve and stimulate your creative self!

As an adult learner with no singing experience, Peggy has been the exact right teacher for me. Her approach to voice lessons and musicality, as well as her ability to develop my confidence as a vocal performer far exceeded the hopes that I had as a beginner. As a result, in a few short years, I have performed in a variety of Anchorage venues as well as creating a commercial solo album. Peggy is a consummate professional who works with people of all ages and skill levels to make singing a joy in their lives.
